The RCMP has laid charges in relation to the fatal July 11 collision of an SUV and a 10-year-old female cyclist in Big Bras D'Or.
On July 11, Victoria District RCMP responded to a call at approximately 9:45 p.m. indicating that a 10-year-old female cyclist had been fatally struck by an SUV on Black Rock Rd. in Big Bras d'Or. The driver fled the scene in the SUV but police were able to locate and arrest him.
The driver, 27-year-old Colin Hugh Tweedie from Black Rock, was charged on August 27 with the following offences:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired, Causing Death
- Failure to Stop after an Accident, Resulting in Death
- Obstruction
Tweedie is scheduled to appear in Wagmatcook Provincial Court on September 5, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is led by the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit.
