Serious collision involving sedan and pickup truck closes Veterans Memorial Highway October 26, 2019.

On October 26, 2019, Bay Roberts RCMP, Bay de Grave Fire Department, and local Ambulances responded to a collision between a sedan and a pickup truck on Veterans Memorial Highway near Makinsons.

The northbound sedan lost control when passing and collided with a northbound pickup truck, flipping the truck onto its roof. The driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck, a 41-year-old Shearstown man, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the sedan, a 29-year-old Fortune man, was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP have since charged the 29-year-old driver of the sedan under the Highway Traffic Act for Improper Passing. Further charges under the Highway Traffic act are anticipated. The collision resulted in the closure of Veterans Memorial Highway for approximately two hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

RCMP NL reminds motorists of the dangers of passing improperly and encourage safe driving practices.
