November 27, 2019
Selkirk, Manitoba

News release

On November 26, 2019, at approximately 8:45 pm, RCMP responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Hwy 9, just north of Manitoba Avenue, in Selkirk.

The investigation has determined that an SUV, driven by a 52-year-old female from East St. Paul, was travelling south on Highway 9, when she noticed a pedestrian in dark clothing, standing in the middle of the highway. The driver attempted to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. A second vehicle, travelling north on Highway 9, was unable to stop in time and also collided with the pedestrian.

Both drivers stopped at the scene and immediately called 911. First aid was administered and the 22-year-old male from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

RCMP along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
