News release

Red Deer RCMP have arrested and charged 11 people during an enforcement initiative targeting criminal activities in downtown Red Deer.

In August, various units including the Downtown Unit and the General Investigative Section, conducted a targeted enforcement operation to address sex trade activities in the downtown area of Red Deer.

As a result of this operation, 11 men ranging in age from 21 to 61 years old were charged with obtaining sexual services for consideration. In addition to these charges, one man was arrested for possession of cocaine, one man was arrested for breach of probation and one man was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

"It's critical that we continue to work to deter this type of crime in order to protect workers in the sex trade industry," said Inspector Mark Groves, Operations Support Officer for Red Deer. "They represent some of the most vulnerable in our society. This operation also further supports our broader enforcement efforts in the downtown area to decrease criminal activity."
