News release

On November 20, 2019, RCMP Traffic Services West was on patrol in the Bay St. George area of Whites Road, Route 460 when they observed a grey mustang travelling at 106 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre zone, passing a pickup truck on a solid line.

Police initiated a traffic stop on Whites Road just north of Brook Street. At the traffic stop the officer learned that the vehicle had not been registered since January 2018 and there was no insurance on the vehicle.

The driver, a 17-year-old man, was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for exceeding the posted speed limit; overtaking a vehicle and passing on a solid line; operating an unregistered vehicle and operating a vehicle without insurance. The vehicle was impounded.

If convicted, the driver will accumulate 12 demerit points – new drivers can only accumulate up to six demerit points, meaning the accused will lose his Driver's Licence. In addition, these charges carry a total of $3380 in fines.
