RCMP make arrest at Edmonton International Airport

On June 18 at approximately 7 p.m., the Edmonton International Airport Detachment responded to a call for service in relation to a male in distress in the airport parkade.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the 41-year-old male from Edmonton was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken into RCMP custody and transported to the airport detachment. While in custody, the male became extremely agitated and the responding members were required to restrain him and take him through the airport to a police vehicle for transport to an Edmonton hospital.

During transport, an incident arose that required RCMP to stop roadside to subdue the male, resulting in a Conducted Energy Weapon being deployed. Edmonton Police Service responded to assist, along with EMS. Once the situation was under control, members were able to continue transport the hospital.

The investigation into this incident continues by both the RCMP and Alberta Serious Incident Response Team. No further information will be made available by RCMP.
