RCMP Major Crimes Unit lay second degree murder charge

On October 2, 2019, the Parkland RCMP responded to a call to assist EMS with a deceased male who was located at the Paul First Nation Transfer Station. The Major Crimes Unit responded and along with Parkland RCMP conducted the suspicious death investigation.

An autopsy was conducted and determined that the male died as a result of blunt force trauma injuries. A suspect was identified, and the resulting investigation involved the use of search warrants and assistance of the RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Collision Analysts.

On October 5 the RCMP arrested a 37-year-old male who has been charged with second degree murder in the death of 48-year-old Jamie Saulteaux of Paul First Nations.

A judicial interim release hearing has been held and the 37-year-old male has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 9, 2019 at the provincial court in Stony Plain.
