On the morning of July 4th, 2019, RCMP received a report of damage to the fishing boat "Devin Special" at the Machon Point Wharf in Murray Harbour.

To date, information has shown that the damage happened some time between 9:00 p.m. July 3rd and 9:30 a.m. July 4th. The owner arrived at the wharf to find smoke coming from the engine house and managed to extinguish the fire but not before an estimated $15,000 - $20,000 in damage had occurred. The battery cable had been disconnected and eventually arched and started the fire. The damage occurred in the wires and hoses on the engine itself and to floor boards on the vessel.

No one was injured in the fire, but the circumstances indicate that this was not accidental and therefore the RCMP are encouraging anyone with any information to report what they know to the RCMP office in Kings County at 902-838-9300.

As always, if you have information but wish to remain anonymous, you can provide information to PEI Crime Stoppers in various ways:

- Report on the web at www.peicrimestoppers.com

- By a free Apple/Android App found on website, or

- By phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)

Respecting the property of others is extended to providing information to police if you know of intentional damage that has gone unreported. The RCMP on Prince Edward Island are fortunate to have excellent community support in curbing crime and are appreciative of any information, no matter how minor it may seem.
