RCMP arrest escaped inmate

Today at approximately 11:45 am, RCMP responded to a report of an escaped prisoner at Headingley Correctional Centre. Officers were advised that a 21-year-old male, in custody awaiting trial for second degree murder, had stolen a vehicle and fled from the Correctional Centre.

Multiple RCMP units, including the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, responded immediately. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, however, the suspect refused to stop. Officers continued to the follow the vehicle along highways and gravel roads, with lights and sirens activated, until the suspect lost control, and went into the ditch at Road 40 E and Road 49 N, northeast of St. Anne, Manitoba.

The suspect was arrested without incident. He is in custody and is facing multiple charges. There were no injuries reported.

RCMP continue to investigate.
