The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) needs your help naming foals that may be part of the Musical Ride one day.
The winning names will be given to up to 12 foals that will be born this spring at the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario. The RCMP has been breeding its own horses since 1939 and is internationally recognized for producing some of the finest horses in Canada. This year, up to 12 winning names will be selected including one classroom entry from across Canada.
The children whose names are selected will each receive a prize pack that will include a photo of the foal they named, a certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner and an engraved horseshoe. The winning classroom entry will receive a framed photo of the foal they named and a certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner.
"This year is the 80th anniversary of our breeding program, and we can't think of a better way to name our foals that are born at our farm than by asking kids across Canada help us," says Supt. Kevin Fahey, Officer in Charge of the RCMP Musical Ride & Heritage Branch. "We love reading all the fun, creative and clever names they submit. It's important for us to have young Canadians play a role in part of our RCMP Musical Ride history."
To qualify, entries must meet the following criteria:
- Names must begin with the letter "R"
- Participants must be 14 years old or younger
- Only one entry per child will be eligible
- Contestants must live in Canada
- Online entries must be received no later than April 30, 2019 at 11:59 pm EST
- Mail entries must be postmarked on or before April 30, 2019
Winning names will be chosen by a committee of employees at the RCMP Musical Ride and Heritage Branch and announced in May — along with the names of the winners — on the RCMP website.
