Missing berry picker located on Grady Island Near Cartwright Labrador

At approximately 6:30 p.m., on September 2nd, 2019, Cartwright RCMP received a report advising a 58-year-old man was overdue in meeting up with fellow berry pickers on Grady Island, an island 20 Miles South of Cartwright.

The man, who was supposed to reconvene with fellow berry pickers at 2:00 p.m. had not turned up. Despite search efforts made by fellow berry pickers, the man was not located.

Police contacted the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre which dispatched a Cormorant Helicopter out of Gander. Officers from Cartwright Detachment, along with 103 Search and Rescue Squadron from Gander, traveled on the helicopter to Grady Island.

At approximately 11:55 p.m., the man was located and was uninjured. He was transported to the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for further evaluation.
