In January 2019, I joined the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, in announcing the creation of a civilian Interim Management Advisory Board to address issues of harassment and workplace culture and to provide longer-term advice on the administration and management of the RCMP. The creation of the Board was one of the key recommendations made in the reports from the RCMP Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC) and former auditor general Sheila Fraser.
Today, the Minister announced the appointment of the members of the Board.
The Board members were selected based on their broad range of experience and expertise in a variety of key areas. I'm confident that they will help us achieve our goal: a more modern, effective, healthy and inclusive national police organization, trusted by Canadians for our policing excellence. I know the Board will continue to help guide us on our journey.
As Commissioner, I'll continue to lead the operations and management of the RCMP and all matters connected to it. The Board will not be involved in any matters relating to law enforcement investigations or operations.
The Board's first meeting will be scheduled in the upcoming months and I'm looking forward to working with the new members as we continue to modernize our organization. Their advice will provide additional, valuable perspectives to help us make decisions that support our people and the communities we serve.
