Mayerthorpe RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes investigate sudden death *update: arrest*

Update:

An arrest has been made in relation to a homicide that occurred in June of 2018.

On July 24, 2019, a 21-year-old male of Alexis First Nation was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the homicide of a 57-year-old male.

The offender has been remanded into custody for a court appearance on August 1, 2019 at Mayerthorpe provincial court.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be provided.

Background:

On June 16, 2018 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Mayerthorpe RCMP were called to a cabin on Lessard Lake where they discovered the body of an adult male inside.

On June 19, 2018 an autopsy was conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and determined the manner of death to be a homicide. The lone resident of the cabin, 57-year-old male has been identified as the victim.
