Manitoba RCMP warn motorists of potential traffic disruptions this long weekend

August 30, 2019
Winnipeg, Manitoba

News release

Manitoba RCMP have been contacted by the Southern Chiefs' Organization in regards to two planned protests scheduled for Friday, August 30, between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm. The locations of the protests are:

  • Highway 75 near the Emerson Port of Entry
  • Highway 59 near the South Beach Casino & Resort

Organizers have indicated that the peaceful protests will be comprised of 10-minute Round Dances followed by a 15-minute break to allow for traffic to flow through the areas.

As Friday is the beginning of the long-weekend, the RCMP expects that traffic will slow down considerably at the planned protests sites on both Highway 75 and Highway 59 between 5:30 pm and 7 pm.

"We will have a number of officers on scene at both locations to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved," said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP. "We know people want to get to their destinations but we ask the public to be patient, to slow down when approaching police vehicles, and follow the instructions of the officers."

Updates about any delays will be shared with the public via the Manitoba RCMP twitter account: @rcmpmb
