Man sentenced to 90 days in jail for possession of images of child sexual abuse

A 54-year-old man from Moncton, N.B., has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for possession of child pornography.

Sam Barrett was charged with possession of child pornography and transmitting child pornography on November 10, 2016. He pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit that began in May 2016. A search warrant was executed at a residence on Lewisville Road in August 2016, and 52-year-old man was arrested.

In addition to jail time to be served on weekends, Sam Barrett will be added to the National Sex Offender Registry and will be required to submit a sample of his DNA.
