Man charged with fraud for paving scheme

A 61-year-old man from Dartmouth, N.S. has been charged in connection with two separate investigations into fraud involving an alleged driveway paving scheme.

The Bathurst RCMP has been investigating at least two incidents in the Dunlop, N.B., area that occurred on July 7, and July 18, 2017.

A man attended the residences on Chemin Morrison and Route 315, stating he was a representative of "Scorpion Paving Enterprises Inc". He offered to pave the homeowners' driveway and asked for a deposit, but did not return to do the work.

Sixty-one-year-old Horace Smith from Dartmouth, N.S. has been charged with two counts of fraud, and was served a summons to appear in Bathurst Provincial Court on May 19, 2020.

Anyone who may have had business interactions with the accused, who experienced similar incidents of fraud, or who may have information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact their local RCMP detachment.
