Man arrested following break and enter

A 49-year-old man has been arrested following a break and enter in Benjamin River, N.B.

Just after 12:30 p.m. on December 22, 2019, the Northeast District RCMP responded to a call to a house on Route 134. A resident had returned home to find an unknown man in the house, who refused to leave.

For safety reasons, a security perimeter was established when officers arrived on scene. A portion of Route 134 was closed during incident. Bathurst RCMP and the RCMP's Emergency Response Team (ERT) also attended.

At 12:30 a.m. on December 23, ERT members entered the home and the suspect was arrested. No one was injured in the incident.

The 49-year-old man appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court later the same day. He was sent for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation and scheduled to return to court on January 22, 2020.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
