Hillsborough, New Brunswick

News release

A truck and trailer that were stolen in Moncton yesterday morning, have been recovered thanks to social media and information received from the public, and a man and woman charged with the theft.

On September 19, at about 11:15 a.m., a truck and trailer were reported stolen from a business on Halifax Street. The theft was reported to the Codiac Regional RCMP.

The vehicle's owner also posted information and photos of the stolen items on social media. As a result of the post, a citizen spotted the truck and trailer travelling on Route 114 in Hillsborough at around noon and contacted police.

Members of the Riverview RCMP responded to Academy Street in Hillsborough, where the truck had parked in a driveway. No one was inside the vehicle when police arrived. The RCMP's Police Dog Services attended, but were not initially able to locate the suspects.

Members noticed a broken window at the house where the truck had parked, and entered the home with the help of the owner.

A 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, both from Moncton, were located and arrested inside, with the assistance of a police dog team.

On September 20, Lindsey Gloria Phinney and Michael Joseph Gilles Godreau appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and were each charged with theft of a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and break and enter with intent to commit an offence.

They were both remanded into custody and are scheduled to return to court on September 23 at 1:30 p.m. The RCMP thanks the public for their assistance.
