Lourdes man faces impaired driving causing bodily harm and other charges following collision; passenger in serious condition

This morning, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Bay St. George RCMP were patrolling Abraham's Cove and came upon a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred moments earlier.

The vehicle, carrying the driver and a female occupant, departed the roadway leaving the woman with life-threatening injuries. She was taken for emergency medical treatment.

The driver, 30-year-old Aloysius Young from Lourdes, was found to be impaired by alcohol. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Bay St. George Detachment where he provided breath samples near twice the legal limit.

Young is set to attend court this afternoon where he will face charges including impaired driving causing bodily harm, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, resisting arrest and taking a motor vehicle without consent. He also faces a number of charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and the investigation is continuing.
