Gander RCMP charges man for robbery at Needs Convenience and possession of stolen vehicle from Gander Hyundai

Stolen vehicle from Gander Hyundai was recovered in Grand Falls-Windsor on October 9, 2019.

On October 9, 2019, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP received a call requesting assistance from a municipal enforcement officer with the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, who currently had a stolen vehicle pulled over on Hardy Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The vehicle, a customer courtesy shuttle belonging to Gander Hyundai, was reported stolen to Gander RCMP on October 8, 2019, at approximately 11:00 a.m. It was stolen from the parking lot of the dealership sometime overnight, during the early morning hours.

Police arrived on scene and arrested the lone occupant, 25-year-old Carson Coates of Main Point-Davidsville, for possession of property obtained by crime. Coates, who was brought before the court in relation to charges of robbery at Subway on September 29, 2019, was released on October 1, 2019, by a judge and was placed on a recognizance with a number of conditions.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., on October 8, 2019, Gander RCMP received a report of a robbery at Needs Convenience on Elizabeth Drive in Gander. Police attended, investigated the crime and were looking to locate and arrest Coates in relation to this robbery.

Coates was held in police custody. He attended court yesterday to answer to new charges for possession of property obtained by crime, robbery at Needs Convenience and multiple breaches of a recognizance issued by the court. He was remanded into custody until his next scheduled court appearance of October 28, 2019.
