News release

The RCMP and Edmonton Police Service joined up for the third successful cross border operation, which ran on Nov. 19 and 20, 2019. The operation saw five RCMP members combine forces with five EPS members to track down people wanted on warrants, and conduct compliance checks on subjects who are known to cross jurisdictions.

This operation was developed by the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and Edmonton Police Service in Northeast Division as a follow up to two prior successful operations in these jurisdictions.

On Nov. 19 phase one of the operation was conducted within the Fort Saskatchewan detachment area and on Nov. 20, phase two was conducted in EPS jurisdiction.

This operation resulted in:

  • 100+ vehicle stops
  • 20 completed compliance checks
  • 22 existing arrest warrants executed
  • 3 new charges laid – including the arrest of a suspect who recently committed a robbery in northeast Edmonton

During compliance checks at the Fort Motel, two individuals were arrested for possession of a controlled substance. As a result of a search incidental to their arrest, the following was seized: suspected crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin with associated drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency, and weapons including bear mace and a TASER stun gun.

A 30-year-old male and a 31-year-old female are both facing charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. They are scheduled to appear in Fort Saskatchewan provincial court on Dec. 5, 2019.

"This is another very successful operation and highlights the positive partnership built and fostered between the RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service" says Inspector Mike McCauley, Detachment Commander of Fort Saskatchewan RCMP. "We will continue to share intelligence about the criminals who cross our borders and work to stop their activities."

"Many offenders cross geographical boundaries between Edmonton and neighbouring communities. Crime and disorder is not limited to specific jurisdictions. The RCMP and EPS have a great relationship of partnering together for collaborative sharing of intelligence, resources and enforcement to combat these community issues." -Acting Sergeant Daniel Penny, EPS Northeast Division Offender Management
