Fatal collision on Highway 103

An 86-year-old Halifax woman died yesterday following a head-on collision between two cars on Hwy. 103. RCMP in Lunenburg County responded to the collision at 4:42 p.m. on September 6.

A red car driven by the woman collided with an oncoming SUV. The driver of the SUV was injured and was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries. The driver of the red car died at the scene. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

Police were assisted by volunteer firefighters at the scene. Highway 103 was closed in both directions and traffic was re-routed between Exits 9 and 10, while an RCMP Collision Analyst examines the evidence at the scene. The highway re-opened near midnight.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with the family of the victim at this difficult time.
