Eskasoni man arrested for weapons offences

On December 10 at 8:30 a.m., Eskasoni RCMP responded to a complaint of a man on Shore Rd., wearing camouflage and carrying what appeared to be a handgun.

Several police officers attended the area and located the suspect. He dropped then weapon onto the ground and was arrested by police without incident. Once the suspect was secured in the back of the police vehicle, RCMP officers examined the weapon and determined it was an airsoft pistol.

The suspect, 46-year-old Lawrence Anthony Toney of Eskasoni, has been charged with Interfering with the Lawful Use or Enjoyment of Property and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. Toney was remanded into custody and appeared in Sydney Provincial Court on December 12.

The investigation is ongoing.
