Elk Point RCMP – Joint operation results in arrest of two suspects

On Feb. 17, 2019, Elk Point RCMP in collaboration with Cold Lake Police Dog Services (PDS) and Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) arrested two suspects stemming from an investigation into a home invasion in Frog Lake.

On Feb. 16, 2019, Elk Point RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence in Frog Lake. Several items were also stolen during the incident. Police conducted an initial investigation and identified two suspects.

On Feb. 17, 2019, Elk Point RCMP and EADRCRU arrested the two suspects in Fishing Lake believed to be involved with the home invasion. Following the arrest, EADRCRU located the vehicle used in the robbery and located stolen property inside. Further evidence was collected which resulted in police executing a search warrant with the assistance of Cold Lake PDS at a separate residence in Fishing Lake. Stolen property from the robbery was recovered including a TV, credit cards, personal identification, ammunition, and property from other incidents.

"Teamwork between police officers and tips from the public are key to the success of our operations," says Constable Guillaume Wilson (EADRCRU). "We will continue to conduct these joint operations and track down offenders committing these types of crimes in our communities."

A 32-year-old male of Fishing Lake and a 26-year-old female of Lloydminster were charged with several Criminal Code offences which include:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Breaking and entering
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Mischief
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The 32-year-old male was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing. The 26-year-old female was released following a judicial hearing.

Both of the accused are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Feb. 21, 2019.
