Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit in collaboration with multiple RCMP Detachments make arrests and seizures

the dates of May 31, 2019 - June 8, 2019, the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) along with officers from the Athabasca, Boyle and Desmarais RCMP Detachments made several arrests and seizures in Calling Lake.

On May 31, 2019, police received a report of a person who was allegedly selling drugs and alcohol out of a vehicle in Calling Lake. Police located the vehicle and observed that the driver had attempted to jump into the back seat as a means of evading apprehension. The driver was arrested and found to be in possession of methamphetamine and an assortment of other prescription pills.

A 26-year-old male of Desmarais was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, operation of a motor vehicle while being prohibited, failure to comply with recognizance and obstruction of a police officer. He was released after a judicial hearing but failed to attend court and is now wanted by police.

On June 1, 2019, the RCMP were on patrol in Calling Lake and located a male who was found to be in possession of a large machete. The male was arrested after a short altercation without any injury to himself or police.

A 26-year-old male of Calling Lake was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and possession of methamphetamine. He was released on a Recognizance and an Undertaking with conditions. He is set to appear in Athabasca provincial court on August 6, 2019.

On June 3, 2019 over the course of several days, members from the Athabasca Detachment and the EADRCRU had received information regarding drug trafficking that was occurring out of a residence in Calling Lake. A search warrant was executed, and a male was arrested without incident. Upon further investigation, police located and seized an assortment of drugs and a sawed off shotgun.

The 28-year-old male of Edmonton was charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with Recognizance (x3). He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing, and is set to appear in Athabasca provincial court on July 22, 2019.

On June 6, 2019, EADRCRU with assistance of the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, attended a residence in Calling Lake in an attempt to locate a male who was wanted on several outstanding warrants. While at the residence, police located a different male who was identified as also being wanted on warrants out of High Prairie. While arresting the first male, police observed the wanted male fleeing into the forest. A short foot chase ensued, and he was arrested without incident. A third male who was wanted on outstanding warrants was also located and arrested.

A 36-year-old male of Calling Lake was released after a judicial hearing for warrants out of High Prairie. He is set to appear in High Prairie provincial court on July 8, 2019.

The 53-year-old male of Calling Lake was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting arrest. He was released after a judicial hearing, and is set to appear in Athabasca provincial court on July 8, 2019.

A 31-year-old male of Calling Lake was released after a judicial hearing for warrants out of Athabasca and Edmonton. He failed to show up for court and is now wanted by police.
