News release

On Nov. 19,2018, an off-duty Member of the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment observed a suspicious red Ford F-250 pickup truck which was parked in a driveway on Highway 28 in Glendon. The Officer recognized the truck as matching the same description as a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Edmonton a week prior.

Members of the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment and the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit attended where the stolen vehicle remained parked in the driveway. A lone female suspect was located sitting inside of the vehicle and was arrested without incident. Further investigation by Police led to the arrests of two additional suspects who were both known to have been in possession of the stolen vehicle.

A 32-year-old male of Bonnyville was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x2)
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Possession of break-in instruments

At the time of his arrest, he was wanted on his outstanding arrest warrants out of the Bonnyville and Cold Lake RCMP Detachments.

He was held in custody for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and was released by a Justice of the Peace on a $3500 no cash recognizance with conditions. He is scheduled to attend Bonnyville Court on Dec. 18,2018.

Two additional female suspects were also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. Both of the female suspects were released on a promise to appear and an undertaking with conditions. The female suspects cannot be named at this time until the charges against them are sworn.

"This unit can be ready to respond at a moments notice." says Const. Robert Eberly of the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit. "Supporting rural detachments in Eastern Alberta with their Crime Reduction strategies is our mandate. We will continue to work hard to disrupt the criminal activity in these areas."
