Cold Lake RCMP charge male with sexual offences

Cold Lake RCMP in partnership with the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit, and Cold Lake GIS have laid charges in a sexual assault investigation that began on October 4, 2019.

On October 4, 2019, a male suspect attended a local car dealership and requested a test drive. An adult female employee accompanied the male for the trip. During the course of the test drive, the female victim was driven to a secluded area and sexually assaulted by the male suspect.

The investigation lead to a search warrant being executed at the suspect's residence. The search was assisted by RCMP Police Dog Services. Police seized electronic devices at the location.

A 55-year-old male of Fort Kent, Alta. was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Forcible confinement
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace where he was released on bail for a court appearance on October 23, 2019 at Cold Lake provincial court. He was released on conditions including not to attend any car dealership in Alta. and is prohibited from possessing a cell phone with photo/video capabilities.

RCMP have debriefed local car dealerships in the area. Cold Lake RCMP Victim Services have been engaged in this investigation.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided.
