On November 28, 2019, an off duty RCMP officer observed a man, known by police to be prohibited from driving, operating a vehicle in Bay Roberts. The information was relayed to the detachment and an officer located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was confirmed to be prohibited from driving and had no insurance on his vehicle.
Fifty-six-year-old George McCann from Carbonear was arrested and charged with two counts of prohibited driving and breach of probation. His vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
McCann was held in custody and appeared in court on December 2, 2019. He was released from custody and is due back in court at a later date.
