Brooks RCMP respond to train vs. motor vehicle MVC

On July 12, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m. members of the Brooks RCMP, Brooks Fire Department, EMS and CP Rail Police were dispatched to a report of a pickup truck that had collided with a train at an uncontrolled railway crossing located near the Brooks Aqueduct.

On scene police found a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup truck severely damaged from being stuck by the locomotive after attempting to cross the rails in the path of the oncoming train. Two occupants of the truck had to be extracted by the Brooks Fire Department. The 21-year-old driver from Bassano, Alberta was taken to the Brooks Hospital by EMS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old female passenger from Brooks, Alberta was also taken to the Brooks Hospital in critical condition. She was later flown by STARS to the Foothills Medical Center in Calgary where she remains - her status upgraded to stable condition.

The cause of this collision remains under investigation by CP Rail Police.
