Update - Blue Hills RCMP respond to found human remains

The human remains found in the wooded area close to Highway 1A in the RM of Cornwallis on October 26, 2019, have been identified as 46-year-old Jason Riley.

Riley had been initially reported missing to the Brandon Police Service on May 8, 2019.

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Blue Hills RCMP along with the assistance of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office continue to investigate.


On October 26, 2019, at 3:25 pm, officers from the Blue Hills Brandon Detachment responded to a call of possible human remains located in a wooded area close to Highway 1A in the RM of Cornwallis.

Officers were advised that the caller was hunting in the area when he came across a bone he believed to be human.

Officers attended the scene and with the assistance of our Police Dog Service from Brandon and the RCMP Search and Rescue team, more human bones were located in the area.

The investigation of the remains is ongoing with the assistance of the Chief Medical Examiner's office.

Blue Hills RCMP continue to investigate.
