Recently, Bay Roberts RCMP responded to a report of a drug overdose in the community. The responding officer used Naloxone (Narcan) nasal spray on the victim which was instrumental in reversing the effects of the overdose. The victim was transported to hospital and survived.

The RCMP seized numerous items found near the victim, including what appeared to be bubble gum. Preliminary tests of the bubble gum resulted in positive indicators for narcotics including Fentanyl. Fentanyl is an extremely potent narcotic which can result in death even in minute amounts.

The source of the bubble gum remains under investigation. At this point it is believed it was brought in from out of province.

The RCMP asks people be vigilant and mindful in the event other such substances are in our community.
