The RCMP Major Crime Unit North is seeking the public's assistance in locating a vehicle related to the murder of Tiki Laverdiere:

A 1997 black Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab pick-up truck with the Saskatchewan plate 333 KLC.

A regular cab pick-up truck has a single row of seats inside its cabin and a single set of doors on each side of the truck.

The truck has a standard transmission, faded black paint and a white sticker across the top of the rear window.

The vehicle was stolen in North Battleford on May 2, 2019. It is believed the vehicle could be in the general area of the Mooseman First Nation or the Community of Cochin, but this cannot be confirmed.

Saskatchewan RCMP UPDATE: Third individual arrested and charged in relation to Laverdiere homicide investigation

This morning, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North arrested and charged a third individual in relation to the homicide investigation of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere.

18 year-old Brent Checkosis (DOB: 2000-12-04) of North Battleford has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

  • Accessory after the fact to murder Secs. 23(1) and 240;
  • Improperly interfering with a human body Sec. 182(b); and
  • Theft of a motor vehicle Sec. 333.1.

Checkosis is scheduled to make his first court appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Friday, July 26, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.

The homicide investigation remains ongoing; as such, Saskatchewan RCMP will not be providing interviews to the media at this time.

Officers expect to make additional arrests in the upcoming weeks.

Saskatchewan RCMP UPDATE: Additional arrest/charges laid in relation to Laverdiere homicide investigation

2019-07-23

This afternoon, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North arrested and charged a second individual in relation to the homicide investigation of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere.

32 year-old Danita Thomas (DOB: 1987-05-26) of North Battleford, has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

  • First degree murder Sec. 235(1);
  • Kidnapping Sec. 279(1.1)(b);
  • Improperly interfering with a human body Sec. 182(b); and
  • Theft of a motor vehicle Sec. 333.1.

Thomas is scheduled to make her first court appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.

The homicide investigation remains ongoing, as such, Saskatchewan RCMP will not be providing interviews to the media at this time.

Officers expect to make additional arrests in the upcoming weeks.

Saskatchewan RCMP UPDATE: Charges laid for Laverdiere homicide investigation

On July 20, 2019, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North have arrested and charged a 27-year-old female in relation to the homicide investigation of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere.

Shayla Orthner (DOB: 1992-01-13) of North Battleford, has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

  • First degree murder Sec. 235(1);
  • Kidnapping Sec. 279(1.1)(b);
  • Improperly interfering with a human body Sec. 182(b); and
  • Theft of a motor vehicle Sec. 333.1.

Orthner is scheduled to make her first court appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.

The homicide investigation remains ongoing, as such, Saskatchewan RCMP will not be providing interviews to the media at this time.

Saskatchewan RCMP UPDATE: Human remains discovered during search

As a result of the forensic autopsy conducted on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, the human remains discovered outside of North Battleford last week are confirmed to be Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere.

Investigators have contacted her family regarding the positive identification.

Tiki was reported missing to Battlefords RCMP on May 12, 2019. On June 10, 2019, Saskatchewan RCMP announced that her disappearance was the result of foul play and would be investigated as a homicide moving forward.

At this time, the homicide investigation remains ongoing. We are committed to providing updates as they become available.

RCMP Major Crime Unit North: Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere's disappearance is now being investigated as a homicide

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North, with the assistance of the North Battleford and Prince Albert Forensic Identification Sections and an Analyst from the RCMP Forensic Laboratory in Edmonton, Alberta, have determined that Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere's disappearance is the result of foul play and, as such, it is now being investigated as a homicide.

Over the course of the last several days, police executed search warrants in a number of locations in the city of North Battleford and are now in the process of reviewing the information gathered as a result.

The investigation remains ongoing and police continue to follow up on information and tips provided by the public. Investigators are committed to providing updates about the case as soon as they are able to.

Battlefords RCMP/Major Crime Unit North: Continue to investigate the disappearance of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere, 25, of Edmonton, AB

The Battlefords RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crime Unit North, continue to investigate the disappearance of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere. She has not made contact with her family or friends for almost two weeks, which is extremely unusual for her.

Police are considering Tiki's disappearance to be suspicious and are concerned for her well-being.

She had been in the North Battleford and Thunderchild First Nation areas to attend a funeral on April 27, 2019, and after the funeral she expressed a desire to return to Edmonton, Alberta. Tiki was last seen in North Battleford on May 1. The last contact she had with family was via text message, also on May 1.

Investigators are working to determine if Tiki left the North Battleford area, as she did not have a known mode of transportation or the means to leave. Investigators are concerned that she may have attempted to hitchhike back to Alberta.

Police are looking for the public's assistance in locating Tiki and are asking anyone that may have come in contact with her since April 29, 2019, or may have seen a woman walking along Highway # 16 to contact police or CrimeStoppers.

Tiki is described as being 5'4" tall and approximately 140lbs. She has burgundy hair and typically wears grey contact lenses. She has small tattoos on her neck and eyebrow and nose piercings. At the time of her disappearance, she may have been carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag and had been seen wearing bright white shoes and a black jacket/pants with unique red and white stripes. Tiki walks with a slight impediment.

Police are also asking people in the North Battleford area to check their properties for any sign of Tiki or anything that may seem unusual.
