Athabasca RCMP execute search warrant at residence

"This search is part of a larger crime reduction strategy that focuses on identifying repeat offenders and conducting targeted, intelligence-led investigations," says Staff Sergeant Paul Gilligan, Athabasca RCMP Detachment Commander. "Every seizure of drugs and firearms plays a part in making our communities safer."

On Jan. 19, 2019 at approximately 5:00 a.m., Athabasca RCMP with the assistance of Boyle RCMP Detachment executed search warrant at a residence in Calling Lake in relation to drugs.

A prohibited weapon, 12 firearms and money were seized along with a significant quantity of various drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, codeine, ketamine, fentanyl and cannabis. Several items including scales and packaging materials used in relation to drug trafficking were also seized. Two residents of the home were arrested.

A 46-year-old male and a 48-year-old female both of Calling Lake were charged jointly with 32 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:

  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Altering, defacing a serial number of a firearm
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x5)
  • Unsafe storage of firearms (x12)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x12)

The 46-year-old male was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing. The 48-year-old female was released with conditions. They are both set to appear in Athabasca Provincial Court on Jan. 28, 2019.

An additional adult male is also facing three charges in relation this incident but his name cannot be released at this time pending the swearing of an Information.
