Alberta RCMP member facing multiple charges

On April 25, 2019, a member of the Wood Buffalo RCMP detachment was charged with multiple criminal offences following a police investigation.

The charges result from an incident which took place on December 28, 2017. Constable Barnaby Seregelyi, 26, entered into an altercation with another motorist while off-duty and in his personal vehicle. Following an investigation, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) determined that the involved member should be charged with four criminal offences:
dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and pointing a firearm.

Cst. Seregelyi, who has been a member of the RCMP for 2 1/2 years, has been released on his own recognizance with conditions. He is currently suspended with pay. Once the criminal charges have been resolved, his duty status will be reviewed.
