A 16-year-old boy from Smiths Crossing, N.B., has been charged with several offences after fleeing from police at a checkstop in Blackville.
The incident happened on the evening of January 4, 2019. Members of the Blackville RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle travelling on Route 8. The driver tried to avoid the police checkstop, struck a police vehicle and drove his vehicle towards a police officer, then fled the scene.
Police followed the vehicle, which ended up leaving the road and going into a ditch on South Renous Road and the driver was arrested.
The teenager, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he is under the age of 18, appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court on January 7 and was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief causing danger to life, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from police. He was released on a judge's undertaking with several conditions, and is scheduled to return to court on January 18.
