Yorkton Municipal RCMP – Pursuit leads to arrests

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. on May 12th, Yorkton RCMP Detachment received a 911 call that a suspect wanted on multiple arrest warrants was seen in a vehicle at a local business. Members then received a second call that the same vehicle was observed traveling south on Highway 10.

Members located the vehicle started to close the distance and attempt a stop, at which time the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to flee from police. A monitored pursuit was initiated involving several police vehicles along rural roads south of Yorkton. The suspect vehicle was soon stopped after colliding with a police vehicle. Two suspects were arrested without further incident.

No injuries were reported to either suspect. One RCMP member was treated for what appeared to be minor injuries.

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – sec. 88(2) Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking x 2 – sec. 5(2) Controlled Drug and Substance Act
  • Assault on a Peace Officer with a weapon – sec. 270.01(2) CC
  • Possession of a controlled substance x 3 – sec. 4(1) CDSA
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm – sec. 86(2) CC
  • Causing a disturbance – sec. 175(a) CC
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order – sec. 117.01(3) CC
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle – sec. 249(1)(a) CC
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police – sec. 249.1(1) CC
  • Mischief over $5000 – sec. 430(3) CC
  • Driving while disqualified – sec. 140(1) Traffic Safety Act
  • Operating an unregistered vehicle – sec. 57(1) TSA

Scott Mehling is charged with:

  • Assault on a Peace Officer – sec. 270.01(2) CC
  • Resisting arrest – sec. 29(a) CC
  • Possession of a controlled substance – sec. 4(1) CDSA
  • Operating an unregistered vehicle – sec. 57(1) TSA

Labelle remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on May 18, 2018. Mehling was released on conditions and will be back in court on May 30, 2018.
