On Oct. 5, 2018 at approximately 4 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant and seized controlled substances from a residence in the downtown Fort McMurray. "The execution of this search warrant, arrests and seizure of drugs and firearms is an excellent example of the kind of results we get from our intelligence-led approach to policing and crime reduction strategy," says Insp. Eric Stebenne, Operations Officer at Wood Buffalo Detachment.

On Oct. 5, 2018, Wood Buffalo RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence near Ells Crescent and Biggs Avenue in Fort McMurray. As a result of the search, RCMP seized over 500 pills including oxycodone, morphine, fentanyl and 12 grams of methamphetamine. Police also seized drug paraphernalia, seven grams of suspected cocaine and two rifles with ammunition.

A 36-year-old male of Fort McMurray, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x4)
  • Possession of cannabis
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
  • Unsafe storage of firearms (x2)

His next court appearance will be in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Oct. 30, 2018.

A 28-year-old male of Fort McMurray, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x5)
  • Possession of cannabis
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
  • Unsafe storage of firearms (x2)

His next court appearance will be in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Nov. 27, 2018.

As this matters is now before the courts, no further information will be provided.
