Whitehorse woman charged with drug trafficking

Items seized by Whitehorse RCMP on August 8, 2018.

Around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, Whitehorse RCMP, along with Yukon Emergency Medical Services, were called to a medical emergency at an apartment building on Range Road in Whitehorse.

Upon police arrival, officers located a woman in the hallway who was attempting to leave the area with a quantity of drugs and currency.

The woman, 30-year-old Sophia Tlen, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Items seized by police include:

  • Substantial quantities of crack cocaine and cocaine;
  • Heroin;
  • Suspected cocaine and fentanyl mixture;
  • Two different types of pills;
  • Canadian currency.

As part of this investigation, officers from Whitehorse RCMP executed a search warrant at a unit located in the apartment building on the evening of August 8, 2018. The search resulted in the seizure of additional quantities of heroin and crack cocaine, various drug paraphernalia, and a large machete style knife.

Ms. Tlen was scheduled to appear in Whitehorse Territorial Court on August 9, 2018.
