RCMP Halifax District Victim Services Unit - Request for Volunteers

Statement

The RCMP Halifax District Victim Services Unit is seeking caring and compassionate volunteers to help make a difference in their communities.

The Victim Services Unit provides support to individuals in the Halifax region who have been a victim of crime or who are dealing with a traumatic event. Staff and volunteers work together to provide them with a variety of resources and information.

Volunteers assist the Victim Services Unit by referring individuals to community resources based on their individual needs. They provide safety and crime-prevention tips, information about the criminal justice system and updates relating to court dates and police investigations.

The Victim Services Unit is currently looking for empathetic and non-judgmental individuals who have a variety of work and/or life experience who would like to volunteer their time.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer will receive specialized training and work under the direction and supervision of the Nova Scotia RCMP.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older with a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, discretion and the ability to be confidential
  • Required to be on call one week every two months
  • Must be computer literate with access to a computer
  • Attend training, events and meetings in the Halifax region (one night every two months)
  • Complete one weekend of Core Basic Victim Services Training in Dartmouth
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a security clearance to be completed by the RCMP
