News release

Combatting child exploitation and reducing youth victimization are priorities for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Last year, the RCMP formalized its long-standing relationship with the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P). This partnership aims to leverage each organization's expertise in helping Canadians prevent, report and respond to child victimization.

C3P offers programs for immediate assistance, and educational materials and specialized training to help inform Canadians and police officers about youth safety. C3P and the RCMP believe that preventing child victimization can only be accomplished in partnership with the community. By making educational tools and reporting programs accessible to the public, we help keep children safe.

RCMP school liaison officers will be distributing copies of C3P's My First Safety Book. The booklet introduces age-appropriate child safety concepts through discussion guides and visual activities. Parents and educators can find the free guide on C3P's website.

Quotes

"The RCMP works with partners at the municipal, provincial and federal levels to prevent child victimization, and to rescue and support victims. We look forward to continuing this partnership with C3P, who is a valuable partner in our efforts to reduce and respond to instances of missing or sexually exploited children in Canada."
RCMP Deputy Commissioner Kevin Brosseau, Contract and Indigenous Policing
"The protection of children is a shared responsibility. We are working together with the RCMP to get this resource to families. Parents need tools to help them begin age appropriate conversations with their children about personal safety. This resource helps to make learning fun and effective."
Lianna McDonald, C3P Executive Director
