Man charged in robbery, dangerous driving and weapons offences

A 39-year-old Brantville man has been charged following the theft of a vehicle and the robbery of a convenience store in Neguac on August 30, 2018.

Just before 10 p.m., Neguac RCMP responded to a robbery at Annette's Convenience Store in Neguac, after a lone male suspect entered the store wearing a mask and demanding money. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the suspect fled the scene.

With tips from the public and the assistance of the Miramichi Police Force, police arrested a suspect on September 10, 2018.

Malcolm Nathan Betts, 39, from Brantville, N.B., appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court on September 14, 2018 and is charged with:

  • Robbery;
  • Disguised with intent to commit a criminal offence;
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Theft of a motor vehicle; and
  • Breaking and entering with intent

Northeast District RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in identifying others who may have been travelling in the vehicle used in the robbery. The SUV, a 2015 silver KIA Sorento was damaged prior to the robbery and has been recovered.
