Lunenburg District RCMP investigates serious motor vehicle collision

Shortly after 10 p.m. last night, Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 3 in Mader's Cove. Four occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.

RCMP, EHS and volunteer fighfighters attended the scene where it appeared that the vehicle had left the roadway, entered a ditch and struck several trees before ending up on Highway 3, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Two of the passengers suffered moderate to serious injuries. One was transported to South Shore Regional Hospital and the other to the QEII Health Centre with life-threatening injuries. The driver and the third passenger suffered minor injuries.

A quantity of Cannabis and drug paraphernalia was located inside the vehicle. As a result, RCMP conducted Field Sobriety Testing which the driver had passed. No charges are anticipated at this time.

The highway was closed for several hours while an RCMP Traffic Analyst attended and examined the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
