News release

On January 08, 2018, at 11:30 p.m. Kimmirut RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a male discharging a firearm outside of a residence. Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the male had attended the residence and demanded his wife exit. When his wife did not comply he shot one round into the residence. No injuries occurred despite the male's disregard for safety. The wife exited the residence and was physically assaulted by the male before they returned to their home where the male was arrested without incident.

23 year old, Simeonie ITTURILIGAQ remains in custody pending a bail hearing on January 11, 2018.

The RCMP is committed to enhancing public safety through many means, one of which is promoting the safe use, storage and transportation of all firearms. The public is encouraged to contact their local Nunavut RCMP Detachment to request free trigger locks to secure their firearms. We want to remind the public to properly store their firearms and ammunition, complete with trigger and/or cable locks and secured in a locked gun cabinet.
