Ile a la Crosse RCMP: Respond to two break and enters/robberies/assaults in Ile a la Crosse

On August 4 at approximately 9 a.m., Ile a la Crosse RCMP responded to reports of a break and enter and assault at a residence in the community. Two adult males were at the residence around 3 a.m. that morning when two suspects, one adult male and one male youth, entered the residence with what were believed to be machetes and assaulted them. One was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries and has since been released. Investigators were able to identify and locate both suspects a short time later. They were taken into custody and an amount of suspected cocaine was seized during the arrest. As a result of this incident:

A 17 year-old male formerly of Toronto, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Break, Enter and Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief to Property Under $5000
  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm when Possession Unauthorized
  • Trafficking in Cocaine

He cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

21 year-old Abdi Rihman Hussein from Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Two counts, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Break, Enter and Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief to Property Under $5000
  • Possession of a Firearm when Possession Unauthorized
  • Trafficking in Cocaine
  • Two counts, Breach of Undertaking
  • Unsafe Storage of Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Order

Both will appear in Ile a la Crosse Provincial Court on Tuesday, August 7 via CCTV.

While officers were investigating this incident, it was revealed that earlier that morning, at approximately 2 a.m., a break and enter had occurred at another residence in the community. At that time, four individuals were present when two adult males carrying firearms entered the residence and stole an amount of money from the occupants. Investigators were able to identify and locate two persons of interest later that day. Both were taken into custody without incident at approximately 5:15 p.m. by Ile a la Crosse, Buffalo Narrows and Beauval RCMP. No injuries were reported. As a result of this incident:

26 year-old Damien Anderson from Ile a la Crosse, Saskatchewan has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter and Commit Robbery with a Firearm
  • Five counts, Pointing a Firearm
  • Careless use of a Firearm
  • Two counts, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order
  • Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited
  • Disguise with Intent to Commit Offence
  • Use of Firearm in Commission of an Offence

32 year-old Kyle Southwind from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter and Commit Robbery with a Firearm
  • Three counts, Pointing a Firearm
  • Careless use of a Firearm
  • Two counts, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order
  • Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited
  • Disguise with Intent to Commit Offence
  • Use of Firearm in Commission of an Offence

Both will appear in Ile a la Crosse Provincial Court on Tuesday, August 7 via CCTV.

Investigators believe that these two incidents are related and the suspects in both instances are known to each other.
