Hinton RCMP seize quantity of drugs after vehicle stop

One man is in custody after a quantity of drugs were found in his vehicle during a traffic stop on Sunday morning.

On Jan. 7, 2018 at approximately 4:30 a.m., a Hinton RCMP member stopped a vehicle on Highway 16 in the town limits of Hinton for a provincial infraction. Subsequent investigation lead to the driver of the vehicle being arrested and the search of the vehicle incidental to arrest resulted in 1,040 grams of cocaine being seized.

A 34-year-old Grande Prairie man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking and obstruction. He has been remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled for Jan. 11, 2018 at Jasper Provincial Court.

"The interruption of drug trafficking continues to be an objective of the Hinton detachment. We see the effects of addictions on a daily basis, and will continue to be strategic in our response to drug trafficking", said Hinton Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Chris Murphy. Crime Reduction knows no borders – the initiatives being undertaken in all RCMP communities – urban and rural – are to the benefit of all Albertans.
