Codiac RCMP warns small businesses of break and enters targeting cash

Moncton, New Brunswick

News release

The Codiac Regional RCMP is advising small business owners to make sure they are not leaving money in cash registers or cash boxes overnight.

Since the beginning of the year, Codiac RCMP has investigated several break and enters where the front window of a business has been smashed or a door pried open in order to gain access to the cash register or cash box. The break and enters are happening during the night after the business closes for the day.

"In a majority of the incidents nothing else within the business is taken, just the money, and in some cases the entire cash register or cash box," says Staff Sergeant Éric Larose with Codiac RCMP. "We are advising businesses to remove all the cash from the store location or to make other arrangements to secure the money."

The break and enters have occurred in various locations in Moncton but primarily along Mountain Road, St. George Street and also businesses in the industrial park along St. George Boulevard. There have also been reports from businesses along Champlain Street in Dieppe.
