Clarenville RCMP reminds public to lock cars and houses to deter thieves from breaking in

Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador

News release

Clarenville RCMP are advising the public that there have been multiple thefts from vehicles and residences in the area over the last couple of weeks.

Cars with doors unlocked or valuables left in the open are easy targets for criminals. Motorists are reminded to lock their vehicles at all times and ensure valuables are out of sight. Do not leave your car running or store spare car or house keys in your vehicle. Always park in a well lit/well populated area where "natural surveillance" can serve as a deterrent.

In your home, ensure your doors and windows are locked. Create the illusion of occupancy when you're away by making sure your yard/driveway is maintained and lights are on timers.

Police are asking the public to provide as much detail as possible when reporting suspicious persons or vehicles, including licence plate numbers, vehicle description or clothing description of persons involved.

To report suspicious activity, please contact Clarenville RCMP at 709-466-3211. To remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (TIPS is 8477), by Secure Web Tips at www.nlcrimestoppers.com, or by downloading our free and secure mobile app. Search your App Store for "P3 Tips". Electronic tips submitted to Crime Stoppers are encrypted, entirely confidential and completely anonymous.
