Blacks Harbour checkstops result in drugs seized and suspended drivers caught

West District RCMP checked more than 300 vehicles during a traffic operation in the village of Blacks Harbour last week.

On January 11, 2018, the St. George RCMP with the assistance of New Brunswick Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit of the Inspection and Enforcement Branch conducted two checkstops on Main Street in Blacks Harbour.

During the two and a half hour period, police issued 10 tickets to drivers for not having their vehicle inspected and not having their vehicle registered. They also issued 20 warnings, made one arrest for an outstanding warrant and made two drug seizures. Police also issued three people tickets for driving while suspended. If convicted, these drivers could face up to 6 months in jail and/or a $2000 fine .

"We do traffic operations regularly in various locations with a focus on improving road safety," says Cpl. Dan Smith of the St. George RCMP. "Police checkstops are one way to help keep our roads safe but we need the public's help too. Practice safe driving and report dangerous driving when you see it."
