News release

Yellowknife RCMP are seeking information from the public that may help in their investigation of a case of hateful vandalism in the Old Airport Road underpass.

Unknown suspect(s) reportedly spray painted swastikas and other racially insensitive symbols and remarks in the underpass.

Inspector Matt Peggs with the Yellowknife RCMP detachment says: "These types of investigations do not only focus on the damage to the property under section 430 of the Criminal Code but determine if there is evidence to support charges under section 318 and 319 of the Criminal Code that fall under Hate Propaganda Offences. Our society cannot tolerate any expression of hatred to an identifiable group and the Yellowknife RCMP takes these types of investigations very seriously."

Yellowknife RCMP asks anyone who may have witnessed this crime or has information about this crime to contact the Yellowknife RCMP non-emergency line at 867-765-3900 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, www.nwtnutips.com, (click on "submit a web tip") or text: nwtnutips to 274637.
