Yellowknife RCMP investigate sexual assault allegation

Yellowknife RCMP are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a 56 year old female. They are being assisted by the Northwest Territories RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

Yellowknife RCMP responded to a call for service at approximately 6:50 pm on June 7. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Stanton Territorial Hospital for medical attention. At this time, the information available indicates that the alleged assault may have occurred in the early evening hours, in the area of Ruth Inch Memorial Pool off the McMahon Frame Lake Trail.

RCMP do not believe general public safety is at risk at this time. However, persons who are associated with the more vulnerable sector of Yellowknife, mainly those who may be homeless or intoxicated, may be at an increased risk.

RCMP remind the public to practice basic personal safety and be aware of their surroundings. Wherever possible, don't travel alone. Use high-traffic routes and locations where other people are likely to be around.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as required.
